Korg Keystage 49 MIDI Keyboard Controller

Korg Keystage 49 MIDI Keyboard Controller

A groundbreaking MIDI 2.0 controller keyboard designed for producers and performers, the Korg Keystage 49 combines exceptional touch response with deep DAW integration and a feature set that goes well beyond a typical controller. With 49 keys in a compact and lightweight form, it's well suited to both studio and stage use, putting a remarkable amount of control at your fingertips while keeping your workflow fast and uninterrupted.

MIDI 2.0 and Automatic Mapping

Keystage is the first keyboard controller to fully harness MIDI 2.0 Property Exchange, which allows two-way communication between the controller and compatible software or hardware. Rather than requiring lengthy manual MIDI mapping, Keystage retrieves parameter names and assignments directly from connected devices and displays them automatically on its eight individual OLED sub-displays, each paired with its own dedicated knob. When you switch between devices or plugins, Keystage reconfigures itself on the fly, so you stay focused on the music rather than the setup. For devices that don't yet support MIDI 2.0, full MIDI 1.0 backwards compatibility ensures nothing is left out.

Keybed and Expressive Performance

The 49-key semi-weighted Polytouch keybed offers velocity sensitivity, channel aftertouch and polyphonic aftertouch, letting you shape individual notes with pressure independently of one another. MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) support extends this further, giving you per-note control over pitch, timbre and dynamics without lifting your fingers from the keys. Twenty-one velocity curves and a seven-octave range give you precise control over how the keyboard responds to your playing style.

Arpeggiator and Chord Mode

The built-in arpeggiator goes well beyond the basics, offering 20 rhythm patterns alongside advanced options including aftertouch-triggered ratchets, randomisation and gating. It's a genuinely creative tool rather than a utility feature.

Chord mode comes loaded with 32 preset chord sets and 32 user slots for your own custom configurations. Each set assigns a chord to every note of an octave, and a strumming mode lets you trigger chords in a way that mimics natural guitar playing. Combined with the arpeggiator, chord mode opens up a wide range of performance and composition possibilities that would otherwise require multiple instruments or complex programming.

Integration and Connectivity

Keystage offers plug-and-play integration with most major DAWs from launch, including official integrations with Ableton Live and Korg Gadget. With Ableton Live, it automatically maps to the first eight parameters of the currently active device and updates dynamically as you switch between them. Transport controls are always available at the hardware level.

Beyond MIDI, Keystage includes stereo audio outputs and a headphone output, functioning as a basic audio interface without requiring additional hardware. It also has MIDI DIN In and Out connectors for connection to hardware instruments and a damper input with half-damper support.

An expansion plate is included and can be attached at two angles to hold a tablet or other device.

Software Bundle

Keystage includes Korg Gadget Producer Bundle, offering over 40 synthesizer and drum machine gadgets with deep Keystage integration for automatic parameter sync and extended transport control. Also included are Wavestate Native LE, which makes full use of Keystage's aftertouch and MIDI 2.0 capabilities, and Ableton Live 11 Lite.
